Download and Install Android 15 Developer Preview on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Google has recently released the first developer preview of Android 15 for Pixel devices. It allows Pixel 6 and 6 Pro users to get an early look at the new features and changes coming in the next version of Android.

Android 15 on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Install a developer preview comes with risks as it's an unstable, early release meant for developers to test their apps. However, if you want to try out the latest Android version before anyone else, here is how to download and install the Android 15 developer preview on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

Backup your Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

  • Open Pixel 6 or 6 Pro Settings App.
  • Scroll down and tap on "Google".
  • Click on "Backup".

Enable Developer Options on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

To enable developer options on Google Pixel 6 and 6 pro, follow the below steps:

  • Open the Settings on your Pixel 6/6 Pro.
  • Scroll down and Tap on "About phone".
  • In the About phone screen, locate the "Build number".

  • Tap on the "Build number 7 times" continuously until you see a message saying, "You are now a developer".

Enable USB Debugging And OEM Unlocking on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Enabling USB Debugging

To enable USB debugging on Google Pixel 6 and 6 pro, follow the below steps:

  • Open Settings on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro.
  • Scroll down the Settings menu and tap on "System".
  • Find and select the "Developer options" menu in the System settings screen.
  • In the Developer options screen, locate the "USB debugging" toggle and turn it on.

  • A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm. Tap "OK" on the pop-up to enable USB debugging.

Enable OEM Unlocking

To enable OEM unlocking on Google Pixel 6 & 6 pro, follow the below steps:

  • Go to Settings on your Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
  • Scroll down and tap on "System".
  • In the System settings screen, find and select the "Developer options" menu.
  • In the Developer options screen, locate the "OEM Unlocking" toggle and turn it on.

  • A pop-up warning will appear. Tap "Enable" to confirm.

To flash the Android 15 Developer Preview on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, you need to Download the Android Flash Tool and Android 15 Developer Preview image for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Note:

When installing the prerelease software, use a secondary Pixel device rather than your primary phone. This prevents any issues caused by the developer preview from impacting your primary device.

Flash Android 15 Developer Preview on Google Pixel  6 and 6 Pro

To flash the Android 15 developer preview on Goole Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Follow the below steps:

  • If you have Android Debug Bridge (adb) installed on your computer, stop the adb service by running this command so it doesn't interfere with flashing:
$ adb kill-server
  • Connect your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro to the computer using a USB cable.
  • Open Chrome browser and go to flash.android.com website.
  • When the pop-up appears asking to allow adb access, tap "Allow" to let the Flash tool connect to your device.
  • Click "Add new device" and select your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro from the list. Click "Connect".
  • On your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, tap "Always allow" and "OK" to enable USB debugging when prompted.
  • In Chrome, select the connected Pixel device.
  • On the Android Flash tool, under "Popular builds", find and click "Developer Preview" to continue.
  • Click "Install" to begin the flashing process. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will reboot to fastboot mode.
  • Once you see "Flash Complete", disconnect the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro from the USB cable.

After the flashing completes, you will see the Android 15 developer preview on your Pixel 6 and 6 Pro downloaded successfully.

Conclusion

Getting early access to Android 15 Developer Preview allows you to try out the latest features and changes before public release. But keep in mind that as an unfinished build, stability and performance will be compromised. Install the preview at your own risk and only if you are comfortable troubleshooting issues.

For most users, it is recommended to wait for the public beta or stable build which will provide a much smoother experience. The Developer Preview is best suited for coders and advanced users who want to help Google identify bugs.
