How to update Nexus 5 to Android 5.1 Lollipop via Factory Images:
Step 1: Download Android 5.1 Factory Image (hammerhead-lmy47d-factory-6c1ad81e.tgz) for Nexus 5 from here.
Step 2: Power off Nexus 5.
Step 3: Connect your device to PC.
Step 4: Boot Nexus 5 into Fastboot / Bootloader Mode, by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously until you see the Fastboot menu.
Step 5: Extract the Downloaded Factory Image to a folder and copy all the files to the Fastboot Folder.
Step 6: Now depending on which OS your PC is running, follow the below steps:
- On Windows: Run “flash-all.bat“.
- On Mac: Run “flash-all.sh” using terminal.
- On Linux: Run “flash-all.sh“.
Step 7: Now a command prompt will open and do the rest of the work for you. Once the flashing is done, reboot your device, if it doesn’t automatically.
