OTA Updates are the most convenient way to update the firmware on Phone. It is convenient for both the users and manufacturers. Users can update their devices easily without any hassle and also without having knowledge on how to flash the firmware. Similarly, there is an added advantage for manufacturers that they can push all the security updates, bug fixes and other updates on time to all of its devices in the market. Today, we are going to see how to pause System update on Android.
Some users might get annoyed that they cannot pause or resume the OTA updates. If an update is a half way through and you have canceled it accidentally or rebooted your device, you have to download it again from the beginning. Similarly, if the update is partially downloaded and you have to leave for urgent work or meeting and on the route, you don’t have mobile data or Wi-Fi, then it might be an issue as you have to wait till the update is downloaded.
The upcoming version of Android from Google includes an option to pause and resume System updates on Android. This saves a lot of data as you don’t have to download the system update all over again, you can simply resume it.
We would like to see the option to pause OTA System updates on most of the Android devices. Let’s now proceed and see how to pause System update on Android O.
In Android O, you can pause downloading System updates by heading over to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates. If you have an update available start downloading it, by tapping on the 'Download' button.
Now you should see the update being downloaded and a button to 'Pause download'. If you want to pause system update, then just tap on 'Pause download' button. When you are ready to download again, just tap on 'Resume' button to Resume the system update.
