This guide lists steps on how to install TWRP Recovery and Root OnePlus X Smartphone
OnePlus Team has earlier released the OnePlus X Android Smartphone which is available to purchase via Amazon, but you need to have an invite to get your hands on this device. If you already have OnePlus X and want to install Custom Recovery, so that you can root and install Custom ROM’s then this guide is for you. So now let’s proceed and see how to install TWRP Recovery and Root OnePlus X.
In order to install TWRP Recovery and Root OnePlus X you need to unlock its bootloader and the instructions on how to unlock the bootloader on OnePlus X can be found here. Once you have unlocked your bootloader you can proceed with the steps listed below and root OnePlus X.
- Before to change any of the system files it is recommended to have a complete backup of all of your important data.
- Charge OnePlus X to at least 50%.
- Enable USB Debugging on OnePlus X from Developer Options.
- Install OnePlus X USB Drivers on PC.
- Setup ADB and Fastboot drivers on PC – Windows | Mac
- Unlock Bootloader on OnePlus X

Copy SuperSU.zip file to root of the OnePlus X’s internal storage or external storage.
How to install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus X:
Step 1: Download the TWRP Recovery image and rename it to twrp.img
Step 2: Copy the twrp.img file to Fastboot folder.
Step 3: Open CMD inside the Fastboot folder by opening Fastboot folder and pressing and holding shift key and right clicking inside the folder at the empty space. Now choose open command window here.
Step 4: Power off OnePlus X and boot into Fastboot mode by pressing and holding volume up and power buttons at the same time.
Step 5: Connect OnePlus X to PC and enter the below listed commands inside the CMD.
This shows list of devices connected to PC.
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
This command flashes TWRP Recovery image on OnePlus X.
This command reboots OnePlus X to normal mode.
That’s it now you have TWRP Recovery installed on OnePlus X.
How to Root OnePlus X:
Step 1: Power off OnePlus X and boot into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the Volume down and power buttons together and when you see OnePlus Logo release the power button and keep holding the volume down until you are in TWRP Recovery.
Step 2: Once you are in TWRP Recovery Mode create a Nandroid backup of your current ROM or System.
Step 3: Now follow the instructions listed here and install Super SU package on OnePlus X.
Step 4: Reboot OnePlus X and check for root permissions using Root Checker App.
With these you have successfully Rooted OnePlus X Smartphone.
