When the Android 7.0 Nougat rolled out for Nexus devices, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 users felt sad, as these devices were not included in the eligible devices list of Nougat update. So here in this tutorial we are going to update Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 to Android 7.0 Nougat using AOSP 7.0 Nougat Custom ROM. To get started all you need is a Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 2013 with TWRP or CWM (CTR) Recovery installed. Also make sure your device is rooted. Once you are done with this you can proceed below and update Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 5 to Android 7.0 Nougat firmware using AOSP 7.0 ROM.
AOSP 7.0 ROM for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 is in initial alpha stage and might contain some bugs. But it can be used to experience Android 7.0 Nougat on Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 Smartphones.
So without any further ado, let’s proceed and update Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 to Android 7.0 Nougat by installing AOSP 7.0 ROM on the devices.
- Backup all of your important data.
- Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging from Settings > Developer Options.
- Charge your device to at least 60-70%.
- Install CWM/TWRP Recovery and Root Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 2013.
- Create a Nandroid Backup.

How to update Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 to Android 7.0 Nougat:
Step 1: Download the ROM package and Gapps Package from the above links.
Step 2: Copy both the packages to root of your device’s internal storage.
Step 3: Boot your device into Recovery Mode. To do so, power off your device and press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons together.
Step 4: From the Recovery Mode, Wipe Data, cache and Dalvik Cache.
Step 5: Follow the instructions listed here and flash the ROM Package and then install Gapps package.
Step 6: Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache again.
Step 7: Reboot.
