In this tutorial checkout how to unlock bootloader on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
Google has recently unveiled Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Android Marshmallow Smartphones recently. The Nexus 5X is manufactured by LG and Nexus 6P is made by Huawei. Both LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware out of the box and comes with all the extra features that Marshmallow provides. Here in this tutorial we are going to unlock bootloader on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
Unlocking Bootloader on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X may void its warranty and also wipes all the data and settings stored on the device. So it is recommended to follow the steps listed below and prepare your device and PC for the unlock process.
- Backup all of your important data and settings to safe place.
Backup and Restore SMS
Backup and Restore Contacts
Backup and Restore Call Logs
Backup files on internal storage to PC
- Enable USB Debugging on Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P from Developer Options.
- Enable OEM Unlock from Developer Options.
- Make sure at least 75% charge is left.
- Install the suitable USB drivers on PC.
- Setup ADB and Fastboot drivers on PC.

How to Unlock Bootloader on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X:
Step 1: Power off Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P.
Step 2: Boot into Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P into Fastboot Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down and Power buttons together for few seconds.
Step 3: Connect Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P to PC using OEM USB cable.
Step 4: If you have installed the ADB and Fastboot drivers system-wide then just open the Command Prompt otherwise open the Fastboot folder and press and hold the shift key and right click inside the folder at the empty space and choose open command window here.
Step 5: Now in Command Prompt type the below commands:
This command shows the list of devices connected to PC in Fastboot mode. It is used to confirm whether the device is properly connected to PC or not.
fastboot oem unlock
This command unlocks bootloader on Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X and wipes all the data and settings.
Once done, enter the below command to boot the device into normal mode.
Update: If the above commands won’t work then enter the below commands :-
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing lock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
fastboot flashing lock_critical
fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability
