Unlock Bootloader on Google Pixel XL and Pixel – How To

This tutorial shows how to unlock bootloader on Google Pixel XL and Pixel Smartphones

Google Pixel XL and Pixel are the newly launched smartphone from Google with impressive specifications and features. In this tutorial we are going to unlock Bootloader on Google Pixel XL and Pixel Smartphones. Once you have unlocked bootloader you can install Custom Recovery and Root the device, which will further allow you to install Custom ROM’s and other zip mods on the device. If you are good to unlock bootloader on Pixel XL and Pixel then follow this tutorial.

Unlock Bootloader on Google Pixel XL and Pixel

Unlocking Bootloader will void the device’s warranty and should be done at your own risk. So proceed with the steps listed in this tutorial at your own risk.


  1. Backup all of your important data to safe place as following this tutorial wipes all of your data and settings.
  2. Enable USB Debugging from Settings. How? Follow the guide here.
  3. Enable OEM Unlock from Settings > Developer Options.
  4. Ensure that the device is charged at least 75% before you proceed.
  5. Install Suitable Google Pixel USB Drivers on PC.
  6. Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers on PC.

How to unlock Bootloader on Google Pixel XL and Pixel:

Step 1: Open the Fastboot Folder on PC and press and hold the Shift Key and Right Click inside the folder at the empty space. Now choose Open command window here.

Step 2: Connect Google Pixel XL or Pixel to PC and boot into Fastboot or Bootloader Mode by entering the below command. Alternatively you can follow this tutorial to boot Pixel XL or Pixel into Fastboot Mode.

Step 3: Once the device boots into Fastboot Mode enter the below commands:

fastboot devices

This commands is to ensure that the device is properly connected to PC.

fastboot oem unlock

This command unlocks bootloader on Google Pixel and Pixel XL.

fastboot reboot

This command reboots to standard or normal mode.
