This tutorial lists steps on how to install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy S8 Smartphone – Exynos Variant
Samsung Galaxy S8 is one the most beautifully crafted smartphone from one of the most popular smartphone manufacturer, Samsung. Due to the Note 7 tragedy, Samsung got a lot of defaming, but with the launch of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus the company has regained its lost fame back. Galaxy S8 is one of the beautifully designed smartphone packing some serious hardware under that chassis. In this tutorial, we are going to list steps on how to install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy S8 Smartphone.
This tutorial is for only Galaxy S8 Exynos variant and it is not recommended for other variants. The official TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S8 is available and which is the one we are going to flash on the device and then Root the device. So, without any further ado, let’s proceed and Install Official TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy S8.
- Backup all of your important data to a safe place.
- Enable USB Debugging on your device from Settings > Developer Options. If the developer options are missing, follow the instructions listed here to enable Developer Options.
- Enable OEM Unlock from Settings > Developer Options.
- Ensure that your device is charged at least 65-75%.

How to install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy S8:
Step 1: Extract Odin Package on your desktop and run ODIN .exe on PC as administrator.
Step 2: Copy the TWRP .tar file inside the Odin folder.
Step 3: Power off Galaxy S8 and boot into Download Mode by pressing and holding the Bixby + Volume Down and Power buttons together. Now press the Volume Up button to continue boot into Download Mode.
Step 4: Once the device is in Download mode, connect it to PC with the help of OEM USB Cable. After successful connection, you will see Added! Message in ODIN.
Step 5: Click on AP or PDA in Odin and select the TWRP Recovery .tar file which you have copied in Step 2.
Step 6: Under Options tab, make sure only F.Reset Time is checked and remaining all are unchecked.
Step 7: Hit the Start button to start flashing TWRP Recovery on Galaxy S8.
Step 8: After successful installation, you will see PASS! Message in Odin.
Step 9: Disconnect your device and boot into TWRP Recovery by turning it off and pressing and holding Volume Up + Bixby + Power button.
Step 10: In TWRP Recovery, tap on Install and navigate to the folder /twres/flashables/ and you should see the two files as shown below.
Step 11: To disable encryption/dm-crypt, just flash “no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip”. It will disable dm-crypt and make /data encryption optional. Then you can go to Wipe menu to wipe your /data partition to finally disable encryption.
Step 12: To Root, simply flash the “Magisk-v12.0-arm64.zip” (About Magisk). It will install Magisk on your phone.
Step 13: When the flashing is done, tap Reboot system.
Step 14: After Reboot check for Root Permissions using Root Checker App.
