In this tutorial checkout how to enable Adoptable Storage on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge
Android 6.0 Marshmallow came out with bunch of new features and among them Adoptable Storage is one. But sadly the Samsung’s UI on Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge skipped this feature. For those of you who are wondering what the Adoptable Storage is? It is the ability to use the external storage as the internal storage and show it as single partition, thus increasing the internal storage of the device. So if you are eager to enable Adoptable Storage on Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, then follow the steps listed below.
- Install Samsung USB Drivers on PC.
- Install and Setup ADB and Fastboot drivers on PC.
- Get an SD card which have faster read and write speeds for better performance.
- Enable USB Debugging on Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.
How to Enable Adoptable Storage on Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge:
Step 1: Go to ADB folder and press and hold the Shift key and Right click inside the folder and choose Open command window here.
Step 2: Connect Galaxy S7/ S7 Edge to PC using appropriate USB Cable.
Step 3: Now in CMD enter the below commands:
This command shows lists of external disk. Make a note of the ID. It should be in the format xxx,x (e.g., 179,0)
To partition the entire SD card as internal storage enter the below command or else skip this command and proceed with the next command.
sm partition disk:xxx,x private
In the above command replace xxx,x with the disk ID which you have taken note of earlier.
To use the part of the SD card as Internal storage and the remaining as the external storage, enter the below command.
sm partition disk:xxx,x mixed xy
In the above command replace xxx,x with the disk ID and xy with the amount of split you want.
Step 4: All done, now check the devices storage from Settings > Storage. For some reasons the Free Space shown might be incorrect, to get the accurate numbers download FreeSpace app from Play Store.
For the last steps, you have to head over to Settings > Storage > SD card. Tap on more option and select Migrate data and export your data.
After following the above steps properly you will be able to use SD card storage as the internal storage on Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.
